Goal Type:

Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

I have been running off and on since the age of 14. Earned state records in the high jump and hurdles in high school and best mile time was 5:20. Now as I'm older run 5K and longer. First marathon was Honolulu in 1997 in 4:16 with Team in Training. Have run 2 more since, but slower times. I am now 47 yrs. old.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I am running Chicago in Oct. and would like to run it in 4hrs. and qualify for Boston. I ran the ING Ga. Half Marathon this past March in 1:59 with only a couple months of training. I would also like to run New York the next yr. I am hoping to get my 5K time down around 21- 22 minutes again.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would like to travel and run several different marathons around the country and possibly throughout the world. I want to stay in the best shape I can for as long as I can.

Personal:

I have been a nurse for 22 yrs. and have been married to the same wonderful guy for 23 yrs. We have three sons 21, 19, and 16. I am the only one who loves running. I have been the Cross Country and Track Booster Club pres. for the last 4 yrs. and Asst. lay coach for the track team for hurdles at my sons high school. I earned my Level 1 coaching certificate for the USATF and would like to eventually get involved in coaching again. I was the event director for a 5k to earn money for the XC team at the high school this past May.

Ran the US 10K Classic today. Ran an 8:39 which I felt was pretty good as I started out way in the back and had to get through a couple minutes of walkers. My first mile was extremely slow, like a 9:30 and so once I got some momentum my 2nd mile was 18:00 and 3rd 25:45. I was pleased with everything except the top 1000 runners in received a medal and I was shooting for that, but maybe next yr.

I don't know if I should have choosen to run this right after my race, but I work the next 3 days 12 hr. shifts so it would have been too long in between my long runs. Anyway, it was slower but I finished. I felt good except my legs were tired.

It was pretty hot out by the time I got out the door, nice 85 degrees so I did struggle a bit. I ran it in 01:05:19.

My legs were real heavy today. My time showed it as well, 28:25. I don't know why I am feeling so tired all the time. I am losing motivation to do my long runs.

They were definately slow miles, but I finished - just barely. The last mile the back of my legs cramped up so I had to run/walk/stretch. It was pretty intense cramping and when I finished and got in the house you could see the muscles on the back of my legs quivering. Looked like waves on a beach. I drank every mile or so, water and gatorade as well as the gel 2 times. I noticed at mile 3 my shorts were already soaked as I could feel the sweat dripping on the back of my legs. I'm wondering if I need to take more of the gel or what I need to do. I finally made it back home in 3:54. Not the time I wanted, but I was glad just to make it back home.

Ran this course today in 1:27. It was a very easy pace and I felt really good. It was right at a 8:59 min. mile pace. I am going to run one more long one before Chicago - 20 miler on Saturday and then taper on down. I don't know if I'll be ready for the 4 hrs., but I will enjoy being there and make the most of it.

Today's run was the best I have had in quite some time. I felt great during the run and did not feel that tired afterwards. My time was 3:30, not wonderful but at least now I feel confident that I can finish and run a half way decent time. I was off the 3:18 pace for the 4 hr. mark for Chicago, but maybe with all the adrenaline flowing and less hills there then in Atlanta, I'll come close.
