Goal Type:

Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

I have been running off and on since the age of 14. Earned state records in the high jump and hurdles in high school and best mile time was 5:20. Now as I'm older run 5K and longer. First marathon was Honolulu in 1997 in 4:16 with Team in Training. Have run 2 more since, but slower times. I am now 47 yrs. old.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I am running Chicago in Oct. and would like to run it in 4hrs. and qualify for Boston. I ran the ING Ga. Half Marathon this past March in 1:59 with only a couple months of training. I would also like to run New York the next yr. I am hoping to get my 5K time down around 21- 22 minutes again.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would like to travel and run several different marathons around the country and possibly throughout the world. I want to stay in the best shape I can for as long as I can.

Personal:

I have been a nurse for 22 yrs. and have been married to the same wonderful guy for 23 yrs. We have three sons 21, 19, and 16. I am the only one who loves running. I have been the Cross Country and Track Booster Club pres. for the last 4 yrs. and Asst. lay coach for the track team for hurdles at my sons high school. I earned my Level 1 coaching certificate for the USATF and would like to eventually get involved in coaching again. I was the event director for a 5k to earn money for the XC team at the high school this past May.

Feeling better after my episode after the first of the week. Just trying to get my legs back under me. I'm still staying around an 8:45 - 9:00 min. mile pace. The last couple of days it has really cooled off here, now only in the 80's. Much more tolerable. The mornings hit around 60-65, to me it's perfect running weather. Glad cooler weather is ahead of us. I just signed up for the U.S. 10k classic. It's one of my favorites as it is all uphill. I like the challenge! The first 1000 runners to cross the line get a medal, so that's my goal and also to run around a 48:00 min.

This was  my first day of getting up before work and running. I got up at 4:30 because I have to be at work by 6:30am. Anyway, once I got up and got going it wasn't that bad. I just need to get in the habit. I won't be able to do any long runs, but at least I won't have so many days without running anything.

Got up again @ 4:30 and was able to run the 3.1 in 27:08. An 8:45 min. pace. I was pleased with that since I'm not a person that likes to run that early. I will be off work tomorrow so I'll get in a longer run, about 9 - 10 miler. I'm gearing up for Saturday, my 18 miler.

Ran this comfortably at a 9 min. pace. Now if I can just maintain that for about 16 more miles I will achieve my goal to qualify for the BM. I'm trying to get psyched up for my 18 on Sat.

Ran this evening with my 19 yr. old son. Left me in the dust, but pushed me. I ran a 25:30.

Well I made it the whole way and felt pretty good physically and of course mentally to know I can do it. I ran about 2:50 and just enjoyed the run. I did have a harrying experience as I reached about mile 8, I saw a body on the side of the road. At first I ran on thinking I would run to a gas station and get help, but then I turned around and went back to the body. I waited until a car came by and flagged it down. A man in the car stopped and walked over with me to the body and started yelling for the person to wake up. After a minute or so, a woman poked her head out from under her jacket and obviously had passed out (cigarette still between her two fingers) and looking pretty rough. I'm just glad she was alive. It has really made me think about how important it is to be in tuned to things and your surroundings while your running.
